Joe Rider: The evidence shows that being aware of motorcycle riders helps ensure their safety on the road. As part of Motorcycle Awareness Month, local motorists are encouraged to look out for motorcycle riders from October 22-28. By reporting your sightings of “Joe Rider” – who will be out and about in his yellow vest – you will go into a draw to win fuel vouchers. The campaign also encourages riders to think about their own safety. Council is pleased to be collaborating again with Stay Upright Rider Training, a training facility providing rider training in our area. If you have spotted Joe Rider, register your sighting online at www.qprc.nsw.gov.au/joe-rider.

Australia Day nominations: Each year, locals are recognised for the brilliant contribution they make to their community at the Australia Day awards. Nominations are now open and can be made online on Council’s website at www.qprc.nsw.gov.au/community/australia-day-awards-2019-nominations or via paper forms from Council’s customer service offices. The aim of the awards is to recognise outstanding contributions to the local community between November 2017 and October 2018. Criteria for eligibility include the length and quantity of service, and the quality of service including individual acts of compassion, generosity, or bravery. There are three awards for Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year and the Event of the Year. Awards are given in Braidwood, Bungendore, Captains Flat and Queanbeyan to recognise the local contributions in each town.
