Rob’s Auto Repairs was founded in 1995, and Rob describes himself as “a one-man crew”.
Looking after all his customers personally, he thinks of himself as a “General repairer, like a GP. I do most makes and models, new car under warranty log book servicing. As I am only a smaller workshop, there are limits to what I can do. But, I am more than happy to do what I can or point you in the right direction for more difficult jobs outside of my capacity.”
With such individualised service Rob also says “I treat other people’s cars like I treat my own. I am an honest mechanic who is upfront with everyone I deal with. If your daughter drove her car in and asked for a quote, I’d treat her with respect and honesty as if she were my own daughter. As a smaller business owner, every customer is of great importance to me as I mainly market my business through word of mouth.”

Additionally, “I take great satisfaction in my customers positive feedback. Not too long ago I had a gentleman come in with an urgent repair that needed to be done in order for him to get back home to Queensland. I took on the job and had him back on the road in no time. When he got home he called me back and thanked me a lot, as the car ‘ran beautifully’.
“These sorts of instances are highly rewarding for me, as I feel I have made a positive impact on someone's life with my humble skills as a mechanic.”
Rob also highlighted the difficulty of estimating the cost before starting work on a vehicle. “Often people ask for quotes. These quotes take a lot of time if I am to give a honest and detailed quote. Often when you’re asked ‘how much for a major service?’ Which I feel people often think is a direct question,” he says, however “it is anything but, as you often need to do a minor service in order to see what major services need to be done.”
Another way to say that is, a minor service entails checking lots of items for signs of early wear, so it is a good way to ascertain what is actually in need of being done now in order to keep the car safe and reliable.
“Your average service could cost $160-$270, but, I do not like surprising people with a big bill, so I always ring them and tell them what needs to be done before undergoing the work so they understand what has to be done to their car.”
Major services are also important because the last thing you need is a failure that could have been avoided, not just for reliability but also to address safety issues Rob says.
“Some simple things can be done yourself, but if you have no knowledge or experience in mechanical repairs, it is best you seek the services of a professional such as myself to guarantee the job is done right and you and your car are back on the road safely.” Plus “I give a 30 day warranty on all work.”
