Already heavily criticised before round one, officials from the NRL are watching the ground closely after Melbourne Victory A-League player Terry Antonis injured his knee on the seam of the centre square.

That issue is different again to the problems that plagued the ground before the start of the NRL season, where chunks of turf were ripped up during a Super Rugby match requiring 3000 square metres to be re-laid.

That in itself has prompted Sydney FC to consider moving games elsewhere, while the Sydney Swans want more discussion about whether a drop-in wicket could replace the regular cricket pitch at the ground.

The Roosters don't play at the ground again for another two-and-a-half weeks on Anzac Day, at least giving groundsmen some time to rectify any issues.

"We will be seeking a meeting as quickly as possible hopefully in the next 24 hours with the SCG and the Roosters to determine what action can be taken between now and the next few weeks," NRL head of football Graham Annesley said.

"We need to meet with them to discuss what happened over the weekend, and see what plans they have to address that in the next few weeks before we play another NRL game there."

"I think it's getting concerning not just for rugby league, but all codes that use the ground."

But Annesley said the prospect of moving games from the ground was not currently on the agenda.

"They (the Roosters) haven't raised that with me," he said.

"All they have talked about this morning is 'let's try and get this sorted as quick as possible'."

The ground could also present issues other than just the surface, with the Roosters set to play there for next three years while Allianz Stadium is being redeveloped.

Its oval shape makes it far less friendly for viewing than a rectangular stadium, be it in Super Rugby, NRL or the A-League.

Thursday's crowd of 9,304 for the Sydney Roosters against Brisbane was the lowest of any NRL game this season, in an opening month where attendances are down 3,600 across the board per game on this time last year.

And while the NRL isn't concerned about the lower attendances given the wet start to the season and lack of double-headers compared to last year, a Daily Telegraph report on Monday suggested the Tri-colours could consider taking some home games to Sydney's west in 2020.
