The plan considers the challenges that the Queanbeyan CBD currently faces and proposes solutions over a 10-year period of transformation.
There has been a lot of positive change in Queanbeyan since our last masterplan was developed in 2009, including the Crawford Street transformation, Monaro Street improvements and the Riverfront/QEII Park upgrade.
A refreshed plan will help us take the CBD forward over the next ten years.
The plan considers potential council and private developments; pedestrian and cyclist connections; streetscape improvements; traffic flow; activation of Queanbeyan's laneways; constructing public domain spaces; links between the CBD, river and park space; and consolidating parking into decked car parks.
The plan has been developed after community consultation between 2017 and 2019 and we are looking forward to hearing the community's views on the plan. Go to yourvoice.qprc.nsw.gov.au
Easy to Do Business: Council was commended by the NSW Government for making it easier for local businesses to start and grow at the Small Business Friendly Councils Conference in Sydney.
We have been participating in the Easy to Do Business program run by the NSW Government, which has resulted in policies across NSW that make it easier to start a business or establish outdoor dining.
Banksia Parklet, Karabar: We are currently upgrading the small park on Banksia Crescent in Karabar as part of the CityCare program. Thanks to the local community for their input into the upgrade, with the project to include a new slide, fencing, additional shade trees and a small bike track for young children.
National Simultaneous Storytime: Last week, our libraries celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime in Braidwood, Bungendore and Queanbeyan. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously across the country. The book this year was 'Alpacas with Maracas'; and the Queanbeyan event was held at the Town Park where there was a very special visit from two therapy alpacas named Olivia and Omar. If you haven't yet connected with your local library, they provide fantastic services to the community, with programs for people from toddler age all the way through to seniors.
