Council meeting: The council's June meeting is on Wednesday, June 26 at the Bungendore Council Chambers. The agenda includes the draft Bungendore Structure Plan 2018-2048, the Braidwood Archaeological Management Plan, consideration of a Men's Shed in Captains Flat, the tender for the demolition of two decommissioned water reservoirs in Queanbeyan and more. Council meetings are open to the public and begin at 5.30pm.

Weed control: Under the Australian Government's Communities Combating Pests and Weed Impacts During Drought Program we have obtained a $500,000 grant to assist drought-affected farmers with weed management. The project covers 370 square kilometres of open grazing country around Braidwood, some of the best agricultural land in the region. A local weed management plan will be developed to protect priority agricultural production. We are also undertaking a project to tackle fireweed in Googong, which has the only known active infestation in the local government area. This $68,000 project is supported by the South East Weeds Action Program (SEWAP) and all public land will be regularly inspected and controlled.
NAIDOC Awards ceremony: We are holding a NAIDOC Awards ceremony and dinner on July 12 at the Queanbeyan Roos Club. We are also seeking nominations for the NAIDOC Awards, with nominations closing on July 5. The categories include Elder of the Year, Apprentice or Trainee of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Youth of the Year, Person of the Year, Inspirational Woman and Non-Aboriginal Organisation. Hoskinstown Road Blackspot treatment: We have been successful in a nomination under the Australian Government Blackspot Program for 2019-20. Safety treatments will be applied on Hoskinstown Road, which will see the installation of centre-line marking, edge-line marking and curve and advisory speed signs. This work will be completed in the next financial year.
Award win for The Storybook Cafe: We are very pleased to have won a Local Government Excellence Award for The Storybook Cafe under the Community Development and Services category. The cafe initiative gives work experience opportunity to the volunteers, who come away with barista qualifications at the end of the program. The Storybook Cafe is open in the Queanbeyan Library.
