Shared Path Bridge: The Queanbeyan River Shared Path Bridge is on track for completion in September. The approach paths and landscaping are currently being completed. On the northern side of the bridge, the path will connect into the upgrade of the caravan park, as well as the existing paths. The handrails and lighting will be installed over the next month. The handrails are designed to automatically collapse in the event of a flood, which reduces the risk of debris catching on the bridge. Lighting for the bridge has been designed with the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in mind as well as the requirements of platypus in the river, who are sensitive to light. The LED lighting will be along the deck of the bridge and will be able to change colour if different activities are in the area.

Wasp information session: If you'd like to learn about controlling European wasps, we have two upcoming information evenings with Laurie Nicoll in Bungendore and Braidwood. Laurie has developed a simple method of trapping the wasps, without having to approach their nests. The information sessions are from 6-7pm on Wednesday, August 28 at the Bungendore Community Centre (Majara Street) and on Thursday, August 29 at the Braidwood Old Library (Park Lane). The idea is to trap the wasps, particularly the queens, before nests can be established. Once nests are established, they are always concealed and are often found under ground in the soil or above the ground in rockeries, wall or roof cavities and tree stumps. If you find a nest on private land, you should not approach the nest and engage a professional. If you find a nest on public land, please inform the council on 1300 735 025.
