It has been a pretty good winter despite the fact there has been bugger all rain.
Plenty of good fish have come out of the 'Bidgee, Googong and Burrinjuck, but the best news is a whole heap of local anglers have joined or renewed their membership to the metre club.
Over the last few weeks in LBG it has been quite hard to find bait or water that holds consistent fish, but it's amazing how quickly it can turn on with a few warm, sunny days.
Plenty of goldens have been spotted in the shallows sunbaking, with Lenox Gardens, Scrivener Dams' concrete slabs and flats around Kingston foreshore very active.
This time of year, just as the sun is raising, I love working ZX blades smothered in S factor across shallow flats, dead slow with a very long pause - 15-30 seconds.
I have always found this method a great way to cover lots of ground and - of course - catch fish.
If the ZX is not getting the attention it deserves I substitute for a beetle spin with a plastic that tickles my fancy.
On the coast, snapper have definitely started making their way to the shallows and have been quite active in morning sessions.
Micro jigs in pink, white and browns working best, and also plastics in the same colour.
The kingfish mayhem at Montague went very quiet for a few days and lots thought it was the end to an amazing bite.
Nope - they are back on the chew and some fish over 90cm were caught this weekend on live squid.
