Since taking the reins from Gertjan Verbeek when the competition resumed last season, Veart said he has worked to instil an attacking style and has encouraged his players to express themselves.

That belief is certainly paying off with the Reds winning seven of their last nine matches and moving up to second after Wednesday night's victory, one point behind league leaders Central Coast.

As well as getting the results, United have regularly produced a high quality, high tempo, attractive brand of attacking football during that impressive run.

"Since I took over last season in the hub, and right through until now, I want the players to play with a very positive mindset and I want them to be happy," Veart said.

"That's a big thing for me - to play with a smile on your face and I think you can see that now the way the players are playing.

"They're playing with that freedom, they're playing with that attacking flair and it's great to see players taking that responsibility on."

That attractive attacking style was on display against Macarthur as United opened the scoring early through Tomi Juric, who headed in a cross from Craig Goodwin after a well-worked short corner.

Juric should have doubled their lead on the half-hour but wasted his chance, before the visitors equalised two minutes later.

The Reds came out firing after the break and eventually found themselves back in front on 73 minutes with Goodwin converting a spot kick before Ben Halloran iced the win with a stunning, flicked back-heel volley.

Veart acknowledged Adelaide failed to kill off the contest, but applauded the Reds' relentless attacking on their way to eventually overrunning the visitors.

"We got into some great positions in the first half," he said.

"Either they got a foot in or we just made the wrong selection with the cross.

"It would've been more beneficial for myself if we scored a few more goals and I think we had the opportunities to do that.

"But, they're a quality side and they were never out of the game and we didn't finish them.

"They stayed in the game and caused us a few issues, but I'm happy we came away with the points."
